For a diagnosed child, months of gruelling treatment and its side effects can impact their mental health, their education, and their friendships.
This is also an extremely worrying time for siblings who can feel like the forgotten child as their parents focus their attention on their sick sibling.
For many parents struggling to care for a child with cancer, whilst working and maintaining a family routine, a childhood cancer diagnosis can place an enormous strain on their relationships and their finances. Children who are struggling to cope with their parent’s cancer diagnosis life becomes full of fear and uncertainty, whilst their parents worry about how to talk to their children about cancer.
Cancer Fund for Children opened their first therapeutic short break centre, Daisy Lodge, in Newcastle Co Down in 2014. They provide nuturing short breaks to families affected by cancer across Ireland.
They are building a new centre in Co. Mayo, on the beautiful shores of Lough Corrib. The benefits of nature and the therapeutic qualities of the scenery, fresh air and beautiful surroundings will enhance every family experience. Families find the experience at Daisy Lodge invaluable. They come away feeling less stressed, having had the chance to relax and spend time together as a family. By supporting them, your donations will help provide short breaks and emotional support to children diagnosed with cancer and to their families.
